Steve QUARRIE Bio-Résumé

Prof. Dr Steve Quarrie has been a research scientist for over 50 years, being a world-respected authority on drought resistance in cereal crops, carrying out research on the genetic control of yield in wheat under environmentally stressed conditions. For much of his UK-based research career he managed multi-partner international consortia of researchers, and has published his research in many of the leading journals in the plant sciences. He has also led research teams on EU Framework Programme projects on water resource management (Waterweb) and is currently taking part in a Horizon 2020 project (Strength2Food) which includes research to improve the nutritional quality of school meals in Serbia through improvements in the food procurement procedure. He teaches general research skills to PhD students at the Faculty of Biology, Belgrade University, including modules on good quality research and scientific writing, and for many years has given training courses to researchers around Europe on aspects of general research skills. In the last three years he has given training courses on these topics to PhD students and young researchers in Albania, Austria, Croatia, Italy, Montenegro, Poland, Slovenia and Spain, as well as Serbia. He has also been a visiting Professor at the Schools of Biology and Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, and is currently at the Business School, Newcastle University, UK. He has been living in Belgrade since 2001, and has Serbian citizenship.
