Dusan KOVACEVIC Bio-Résumé

Dušan Dj. Kovačević, Full Professor at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade,  Corresponding member of the AESS since 2009, was born in 1954 in Indjija. He graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade in 1978. He received his MSc degree at the same faculty in 1983, as well as PhD degree after defending his doctoral thesis in 1989. He was elected Full Professor in 2001 for the course General Crop Science which he has taught since then to the students at the Department of Crop Science at the Faculty of Agriculture in Zemun. From 1999 to 2001 he was Head of the Department of Crop Science. Since 2001 he has been Head of the Division of Agricultural Practices and Agroecology at the Department of Crop and Vegetable Sciences at the Faculty of Agriculture in Belgrade - Zemun. In teaching activity he lectures in several courses of the Chair at all study levels on Faculty of agriculture, University of Belgrade. Since 1998 he has taught the courses General Crop Science and Organic Agriculture as a visiting professor at the Faculty of Agriculture in East Sarajevo.  He has been a mentor of 8 PhD theses, 2 Magister ones and over 90 diploma works (now MSc theses). He has been a commission member involved in the viva voce of fiftheen PhD theses at Faculty of Agriculture in Zemun. Currently, he is a supervisor of one PhD theses. In scientific and research activity he works in the field Conventional Field and Crop Production, Organic Production and Weed Control in Field Crops. As the sole author or in collaboration with other authors he has published over 380 scientific papers. After election in corresponding member AESS he published from 2010 year many papers in international journals: 1 M21 paper, 1 M22 paper, and 11 M23 papers. He is also the author and coauthor of 46 papers at the international conferences, 8 of them are invited.  He has published as the sole author the university textbook General Principles of Field and Crop Production (two editions 2003 and 2011), 4 monographs of national importance and another 6 in collaboration with other authors as well as two university books of exercises. He was an chief editor Six International Books of Proceedings and monographs based on the presentations made at the international and  four national conferences. He is an organiser and president of scientific board of a number of national and international symposia on the field of agriculture. He gave an invited lecture in 8 international conference, in 19 was a member of program committee, and in many a session as chairman. In international cooperation activities he visited a lot of technical universities of various developed countries. He is currently president and one of the founders of Serbian Soil and Tillage Research Organization (SRBSTRO), member of several associations important in areas of science, primarily Serbian Society of Soil Science, Herbology Association of Serbia and European Weed Research Society. 

Expert in Agrotechnics in Field and Vegetable Crops including planning and development of sustainable agriculture systems based on practices (tillage, fertilizers, seeding, care of measures, weed control, crop rotations) that conserve the natural environment including soils conservation, pollution control, safe use of agro-chemicals, etc. Develops project concerning crop-weed interactions in low-input systems, evaluates minimum data required for predicting minimum yield losses from weeds in maize and wheat, soyabean, potato and alternative crops. Soil physical properties in different farming systems from conventional to organic. Multifuncional agroecological investigation in field crop production. New concepts of development of agriculture and agricultural engineering possibilities for adaptation measures.

Other activities:

Since 1999. to 2014. Kovacevic was Head of Institute for field and vegetable production Faculty of Agriculture, Belgrade-Zemun. Chief of the Department for agrotecnics and agroecology. He was a mentor more than two hundred fifty diploma thesis on basic academic level, and a member of the Commission in nine phD and master's thesis of a Faculty of Agriculture in Zemun. He was a mentor six phD. thesis. Currently as a mentor leads two candidate for phD thesis. By and professional articles and is a frequent contributor and guest on various TV programs related to agriculture and ecology. He has published a total of 280 scientific papers, and many popular articles.
